Phonics Carnival – Celebrating the Joy of Early Literacy

At *Sri Venkateswara Junior School – International Curriculum, learning extends beyond the classroom, creating meaningful opportunities for parents to become active partners in their child’s educational journey. In keeping with this vision, the **Phonics Carnival* was organised as an engaging and enriching experience for the parents of our young learners.
The carnival offered parents an insightful glimpse into the world of *phonics-based learning*, helping them understand how children develop the essential foundations of reading through sounds, letters, blending and word recognition. Rather than being a conventional orientation session, the event transformed learning into an experience—where parents participated, explored and learned alongside our educators.
Through a thoughtfully designed series of *interactive phonics activities, demonstrations and learning games, parents experienced the strategies used in our classrooms to make early literacy both effective and enjoyable. The activities showcased how simple, purposeful interactions can strengthen children’s **phonemic awareness, pronunciation, vocabulary, listening skills and reading confidence*.
A key highlight of the carnival was the emphasis on *continuity between school and home*. The enthusiastic participation and wholehearted involvement of our parents added warmth and energy to the occasion. Their willingness to learn, engage and understand their children’s reading journey reflected the powerful partnership that lies at the heart of meaningful education.
The *Phonics Carnival* was therefore more than a parent engagement initiative—it was a celebration of *collaborative learning, foundational literacy and the joy of discovering words*.
